Langley Ukulele Ensemble will wow audience members as their ‘ukes’ strum classical works by Brahms, Bach, Mozart, and more

Don’t miss Music with Heart: Ukuleles and Valentines with the fast-fingers of some of the most renowned ukulele players in Canada. The Chilliwack Cultural Centre’s Rotary Hall Studio Theatre will be filled with songs of love as The Langley Ukulele Ensemble showcases their expertise and skill with the ukulele on February 10 at 2:30 PM. Songs such as “Somewhere My Love”, “Goodnight Sweetheart”, “When the Moon Hits Your Eyes”, and “Un There Was You” will remind us that there is something for every lovebird in the crowd as the ensemble plucks at our heartstrings.

The first in the Rain Mountain Classical Music Series, this jubilant performance is presented in partnership with The Chilliwack Arts & Cultural Centre Society and The Chilliwack Academy. Featuring “songs of the heart,” the Langley Ukulele Ensemble in Music with Heart will wow the audience as their ‘ukes’ strum the classical works of Brahms, Bach, Mozart, Pachalbel, Gershwin, and Rimski-Korsikovpop; tunes by many artists from the 1950’s to the 80’s, and folk/ethnic music from a variety of countries. The key theme of “love songs” will flow through the show in an exciting and entertaining presentation perfect for you and your significant other this Valentine’s Day.

With a history spanning 30 plus years, the Langley Ukulele Ensemble has toured all across Canada including two stints at the Stratford Summer Music Festival and two visits to the Nova Scotia Ukulele Ceilidh. This exclusive ensemble is composed of 20 young musicians, ages 12 – 19. Their concerts focus on bringing the ukulele to a wider audience and teaching the joys of this recognizable four-stringed instrument.

Ensemble director Peter Luongo has been the driving force in capturing the essence of the uke – bringing it to the masses and showcasing its versatility. Luongo and the ensemble perform 50-80 shows a year in the Langley community, as well as concerts across Canada, and in Florida, Texas, California, the Pacific Northwest, Japan and Hawaii.

Setting the mood for Valentine’s Day and so aptly named; Music with Heart: Ukuleles and Valentines, this 2:30 PM matinee will feature a variety of love songs from classical composers to recent popular hits – all combined to create a fun and upbeat show not to be missed! These youth are on their way to becoming masters of their craft; witnessing them first hand is sure to be a fantastic experience.
