Give yourself the gift of starting 2015 off by taking your artwork to the next level.
Award winning artist Kristy Gordon is returning to the Okanagan to teach a three-day portrait painting workshop in Lake Country, Jan. 13 to 15.
“This oil painting workshop is perfect for all levels,” said Gordon, who is a working artist based in New York City. “The beginner will learn fundamental principles such as how to mix colours and render form modeling. The more advanced student will discover how to take their work to the next level and achieve the finish that they desire. These tips can be applied to all of their future work and improve any painting of any subject.”
Gordon received her master’s in fine arts degree in painting from the New York Academy of Art and holds a bachelor’s in fine art in drawing and painting from the Ontario College of Art and Design. She has studied classical drawing and painting at the Academy of Realist Art in Toronto and Andreeva Portrait Academy in Santa Fe.
She has also studied privately with artists including Yuqi Wang, Odd Nerdrum, Juan Martinez, and Jeremy Lipking.
Gordon has seven years of experience teaching and conducting painting workshops throughout North America. She has taught at numerous academies and schools including the Academy of Realist Art in Ottawa, the Lake Country Art House, and the Okanagan School of Arts in Penticton.
She has also taught at the New York Academy of Art and lectured at China’s Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, New Century Artists in New York City, and the Art of the Portrait in Washington, D.C.
For her Lake Country workshop, she will focus on the experience of painting from a live model.
“There will be a single, sustained pose throughout the workshop,” said Gordon. “Participants will learn how to achieve a better likeness as well as how to paint convincing flesh tones. Each day will include a painting demonstration, discussion and individual instruction at the easel.”
