Find your love for art this fall with the Chilliwack Cultural Centre’s fabulous new lineup of art classes. Classes for 2018 are now available for registration, and the selection is more diverse than ever: from pottery to photography to painting and even jewellery making, these fantastic classes are sure to inspire you and turn your fall into something extraordinary.
Trischa Buhler, the Arts and Crafts Coordinator for the Centre, is thrilled about the new classes coming this fall:
“I am excited about two big new classes this fall, the glass fusion class and the acrylic pouring workshop. They’re both things that have been building in popularity over the last couple years, so it’s nice to bring them in to the Centre.
“The glass fusion is our stepping stone between our flame work class that we’ve been offering and stained glass. After glass fusing we hope to offer stained glass in the future. We’re still some ways off, but it’s nice to have that middle portion in place.
“Dan Berube also has a new class, Art Fundamentals. Taking it away from drawing, watercolours and acrylics, he’ll be guiding students through pen and ink drawings, using Conté crayons, and other aspects of art that people don’t normally get to explore.”
On top of the new classes being offered, there are a handful of incredible workshops that will be coming in the fall.
“We also have several new advanced level classes that we’ll be offering as part of a grant that we received,” said Buhler.
“Because of this, we’re able to bring in artists like Vincent Massey, a very well-known potter, to teach classes. Massey has done a lot of work for restaurants in Whistler, creating tableware for them. Also coming, is Rick Hulbert who is in high demand as an urban photographer. And Suzanne Northcott who will be teaching a class on next level acrylics and mixed media.
“It’s just nice that we’re at a point where we’ve got this group of people who’ve taken the beginner classes, have taken the intermediate classes and are now looking to branch out, and we’re now able to provide this for them. That’s exciting for me, because it shows how much we’ve actually grown in classes over the last few years.
“New classes for adults aren’t the only ones being offered,” continued Buhler. “In our kids’ classes, we’ll have Ballet Kelowna coming to provide a masterclass for young dancers, and we’re also starting our fiber arts genre of classes with Introduction to Knitting, that will build the foundation for future classes.
“It’s a bigger brochure, and we just keep growing,” concluded Buhler, whose joy for what’s to come is palpable, and promises for there to always be something new in the classes being offered.
If you’re looking for a creative outlet to practice your art, the Open Glass Studio, Open Clay Studio and Life Drawing Open Studios offer a space to hone your skills in glass-bead making, drawing and painting, and practice on the wheel or hand building. The Open Studios are non-instructional sessions and are perfect for anyone short on time with a desire to construct and create.
Private classes for either small groups or individuals can also be arranged throughout the summer. Perfect for birthday parties, girls’ nights out, or getting the hang of that one tricky medium through one-on-one guidance from one of our talented instructors.
