The Kootenay Gallery closes its 2012-13 TD Bank Sunday Concert series on April 14 with a family affair. Montreal cellist Johanne Perron will be joined by daughter Isabella on violin for an afternoon of solo cello and duo cello/violin works.
An international cello artist, Johanne Perron presently pursues a career as chamber musician, solo performer and educator. As soloist she has played with orchestras including the Montreal, Mexico and Lisbon Symphonies. Johanne has presented recitals in Canada, Brazil, Mexico, and the United States as well as in Europe and has collaborated as chamber musician on the American stage with members of the Philadelphia piano quartet and Classic Chamber concerts of Naples Florida and also appeared at the Luzerne, NY chamber music festival.
As a Canada Council grant recipient, she obtained a Master’s degree at Yale and thereafter studied with Leonard Rose at the Juilliard School of Music in New York. Critics of the Musical America magazine have described her as “an artist of extraordinary musical dimension, compelling intensity and deep inner serenity.”
Thirteen-year-old Isabella has grown up in a musical family and has not wasted any time in establishing herself on the musical stage. Isabella has performed with the Metropolitan orchestra in Montreal and has been featured in Alberta and in Quebec as one of the best promising talents of the future. Multi-talented on the violin, piano and voice while performing the genres of classical, pop and jazz, Isabella released her first cd in 2012. Her first album is on the list of the ten best sellers in the Province of Quebec. She will be recording the second album with artist Gregory Charles this Spring 2013.
The mother-daughter duo will perform works for solo cello and solo violin by J.S. Bach, solo cello by Cassado and Kodaly and will combine forces in works by Mozart, Ravel and Kodaly.
The concert takes place Sunday, April 14 at 1:30 p.m. at Castlegar United Church. Tickets are available at the door, $12 for Kootenay Gallery members and $15 general admission. Information: 250 365-3337 or www.kootenaygallery.com
