Do you want to try something a little bit different which is good exercise and good for the brain as well? Come and try Scottish country dancing with the Port Alberni Scottish Country Dancers.
You may never have danced before, you may be slow and sedentary and you may have two left feet, but you’ll catch on quickly.
Scottish dancing can be enjoyed by someone eight or 80 years old; the whole family can dance together, and there is no need to have a partner.
Scottish Country Dance groups are found worldwide from Alice Springs to Zanzibar, and are popular on Vancouver Island, says a local spokesperson.
The Port Alberni group is entering its 37th season and is having an open house on Monday, Sept. 29 from 7–9 p.m. at Hansen Hall. Partners will be provided, teaching will be provided, refreshments will be served, and (dear to the heart of every Scot or potential Scot) it will cost nothing for this evening.
The curious will make the acquaintance of jigs, reels, and slower strathspeys danced to the toe-tapping beat of Scottish melodies. Please bring soft-soled shoes and a smile – the Port Alberni Scottish Country Dance group will do the rest.
Regular classes take place on Monday evenings at Alberni Elementary School.
