They are out to bring stellar shows and productions to Chilliwack that a city this size simply wouldn’t otherwise see.
The new 2011-2012 Season was proudly unveiled by the Chilliwack Arts & Cultural Centre Society and Cultural Centre executive director Michael Cade.
“It’s going to be a fantastically exciting season,” he gushed.
Up on deck are no less than 21 “brilliant” performances from theatre and dance, to kids’ shows and a classical music series.
“The goal was to make sure the Chilliwack community has the widest range of performance experiences possible,” said Cade.
There are also four blockbuster special presentations scheduled.
To mark the centre’s first anniversary, The Irish Rovers’ will hit town with their Home in Ireland show on Oct. 1.
The Cultural Centre is partnering with the Chilliwack Academy of Music to offer a special classical music series, geared to complementing existing symphony offerings in Chilliwack.
“We’re concentrating on smaller chamber performances with this special series in the Rotary Hall Studio Theatre, with its intimate atmosphere.”
One of the special presentations for those who like to laugh is The Ultimate Comedy Show with the hysterical Roman Danylo as the host of a side-splitting evening of sketch, stand-up and improv comedy.
“One of the most exciting things in February will be the arrival of the National Ballet of Cuba,” said Cade.
Not necessarily the show, which will be a treat, but the fact that the last date on their tour will be in Chilliwack. Dancers will be joined by more arriving dancers who will be rehearsing here for the production of Don Quixote at the Queen Elizabeth in Vancouver.
“To make it even better, it’s on Valentine’s Day.”
Back by popular demand by fans of standup comedy will be, I Am Woman! Hear Me Laff! celebrating International Women’s Day in March with an all-female line-up.
Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story is a rock and roll tribute production shedding light on the music and tragic life of the musician is more than a tribute show. It’s a fully scripted piece with a full band and more by the Arts Club Theatre of Vancouver, Cade said.
“It was sold-out for its entire Vancouver run,” he said.

“One of the things with our website is if you see a show you like you can call and order tickets over the phone, or click a button for online sales.”
There’s an online app for smart phones called Ticket Trove where you find the closest venue and it lets you know what’s playing there.
“It offers the service from wherever you are in North America,” he said.
They’re already looking toward the 2012-13 season to bring more Fringe-style performance to town.
“We’re building on what we did last year,” Cade said.
“We’re taking the same trajectory and have the same goals. We are bringing the shows that wouldn’t otherwise be coming to Chilliwack.”
