Feel the holiday spirit with A Celtic Christmas

The North Shore Celtic Ensemble returns to the Chilliwack Cultural Centre Dec. 9

Kick off your Christmas season with the lively fiddling of the North Shore Celtic Ensemble, as they return to Chilliwack with A Celtic Christmas.

On Dec. 9, these young musicians and their special guests are taking over the Chilliwack Cultural Centre with a colourful repertoire of evocative songs, time-honoured carols, and electrifying orchestral fiddle music that will get your toes tapping and sleigh bells ringing.

Originally known as the Waldorf Celtic Ensemble, The North Shore Celtic Ensemble got their start in 1999 at the Waldorf school in North Vancouver. Now, with more than 55 musicians in their lineup, the ensemble has expanded into a four-ensemble, non-profit organization that performs locally and abroad.

Over the years the ensemble has grown their repertoire to include a variety of genres including jazz, classical, folk, and much more. The North Shore Celtic Ensemble celebrates the season in their very own spirited and heartwarming West Coast Celtic style.

This breathtakingly exuberant group will be joined by special guests Eire Borne Irish Dancers from the De Danaan School of Irish Dance, as well as the incredibly talented youth fiddle group, Bad to the Bow.

Since its start in 2000, the De Danaan School of Irish Dance has been operating out of Burnaby and Langley. Their accomplished dancers perform and compete locally as well as internationally, and now they’re bringing one of their talented troupes for this lively festive performance. With their colourful and eclectic repertoire, the dancers complement the Celtic tempo perfectly with their brilliant footwork. Bad to the Bow, a youth fiddle group established in 2007, takes traditional Celtic tunes and applies cutting-edge contemporary string playing techniques.

Enjoy the irresistible energy of these talented troupes of young musicians and dancers, and let yourself be carried away by their unique and distinctive sound. With enchanting string music, familiar songs that’ll make you feel like curling up in front of a fire, and the intricate and beautiful flowing costumes of the dancers, this lively blend of strings, wind instruments and percussion will put an unforgettable spin on your Christmas season.

A Celtic Christmas is coming to the Chilliwack Cultural Centre on Dec. 9 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $35 for adults, $32 for seniors and $30 for youths, and can be purchased at the Centre Box Office, online at www.chilliwackculturalcentre.ca, or by calling 604-391-SHOW(7469).
