This year’s Rockin’ River Music Festival will return the Mission Raceway Park in August.
Organizers of the event wanted to move the event to the north side of the Lougheed Highway, just west of Nelson Street, but the proposal was rejected by the Agricultural Land Commission, which determines uses for farmland.
The festival will take place Friday, Aug. 12 and Saturday, Aug. 13 and will run from 3 p.m. to 1 a.m., which is an hour later than in previous years.
Organizers say the one-hour extension is needed because some of the headline acts will not take the stage until the sun has set. Lights and big screen are essential to their show, said Kenny Hess in a letter to the district.
There have been no complaints in the two years since the event has come to Mission, and council unanimously granted the request.
Main acts at the festival this year will include country rock stars Travis Tritt, Lonestar, Sawyer Brown and Julian Austin.
“The lineup for this year’s festival is really impressive,” said Hess. “These acts are some of country’s best stage performers and they will not disappoint this summer.”
