The V.I. Raiders might not know much about art, but they know what they like.
Nanaimo’s junior football team will benefit from a different kind of fundraiser this month with the Tough Guy Art Show.
Painter, author and motivational speaker Bob Mueller will be teaming up with Nanaimo artist Derek Rickwood for the event, to be held Jan. 27 and Jan. 29-31 at Steve Marshall Ford.
The artists will be selling both original works and prints.
“Mueller’s art is build around ‘tough guy art’ featuring hall-of-fame players like Dick Butkus, Walter Payton and Brett Favre as well as many other NFL and NHL sports heroes. Rickwood’s art features the beauty of Vancouver Island and his reverence for Island home,” notes an event press release. “Looking at the diversity of these two artistic concepts, you can literally say the presentation is like ‘beauty and the beast.'”
There will be a private gala on Jan. 27, when Mueller will screen his Emmy award-winning short film Finding Your Butkus and give a speech. From Jan. 29-31, the exhibition is open to the public at the auto dealership showroom, and the artists will be on hand from 4-7 p.m. each evening.
