First local gig for newcomer

A NEW REED PLAYER in the Comox Valley, Rachel Fuller, plays May 13 at Zocalo Café.

Rachel Fuller is new to town.

She will perform at the Zocalo Café this Friday from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. and admission is free. This is her debut appearance here and she will play the soprano and alto sax, clarinet and the new EWI 4000 (electronic wind Instrument).

She has a repertoire of over 200 charts and covers a wide range of styles from ballads, funk and jazz to rock and pop.

Whilst studying in England, she was principal sax of the Southampton University Jazz Orchestra, principal sax of the Southampton City Pops Orchestra and principal clarinet of the University Sinfonietta Orchestra.

She graduated with a first-class honours degree and soon began touring with an international showband taking her around North America, the South Pacific, the Far East, Middle East and much of Europe.

She has recently begun teaching clarinet and sax at Motif Music Studios in Courtenay and she also plays with Time Well Wasted, the best 11-piece R&B band in town.
