Folk duo reunites

In 1978 Pied Pear received a standing ovation playing in the rain on the very first night of the very first Vancouver Folk Music Festival.

Thirty-three years later, they’re back to play those tunes one more time.

Joe Mock and Rick Scott pioneered indie roots music with Shari Ulrich in Pied Pumkin. When Ulrich went on to other projects, the duo continued as Pied Pear, releasing three albums and representing Canada at the Knoxville World’s Fair in 1982.

They went their separate ways, Mock to Japan and France, and Scott to another nine countries before reuniting with Ulrich for Pied Pumkin in 1998.

Scott and Mock wanted to return to playing the vast and unique Pied Pear repertoire – and Mock travelled from his home in France to do just that.

As part of their Island-wide tour, the duo released a collection of songs combining two albums previously only released on vinyl: The Pear of Pied Pumkin and Pied Who? Pear What?

The albums are available at a house concert in the Old City Quarter April 10 at 7:30 p.m. or online at www.rickscott.ca.

Tickets for the house concert are $15. For tickets and location, please call 250-802-8863 or e-mail trish@trishclairpeck.com.
