More than 200 vehicles will be at Heritage Acres park in Central Saanich Sunday for the annual Early Ford V8 Club car show.
Event co-chair Bruce Somers says it’ll probably be more like 250 vehicles — and not just early model Fords.
“It’s an open event. Everybody will be able to see a different variety of cars.”
While the event itself is run by the club — made up of owners and enthusiasts for Ford vehicles from 1956 and earlier — Somers said anyone with a vehicle from 1986 or earlier can enter the show.
At the park, where the club has hosted the event for close to 15 years of its 36-year history, Somers said there will be a variety of vehicles. From trucks to cars, there will be stock versions, hot rods and even ‘rat rods’ — cars that are put together on the cheap. Those are typically still works in progress, but run just fine and are simply lacking paint, upholstery — the finishing touches.
“They are like old time jalopies,” he explained. “Budget vehicle by people who still love the cars.
“You just never know what’s going to come through the gate.”
The show opens to the public at 9 a.m. on July 17 and runs to around 3 p.m. The on-site trains, run by the Vancouver Island Model Engineers, start running for families at around 10 a.m.
Somers said there will be live music by the band Rukus, food and kids games and the Heritage Acres museum will be open — meaning there is always lots to do for the entire family.
Somers himself is looking forward to bringing out his 1928 Model A convertible pick-up truck at some point. Although he admits that, too, is a life project.
