In their 2016 juried show, the Fort Gallery is inviting the public to experience art that focuses on the monarch butterfly as a metaphor for humanity and the world we live in.
Metaphoric Monarch, on now until Aug. 5, explores themes of metamorphosis, migration and endangerment through the 22 pieces of art, which were chosen from among 62 submissions.
The artwork ranges from two and three dimensional pieces, installation works, paintings, prints, pastels, drawings, punched paper from books, photos, assemblages and fibre art.
The included artists are: Miguel Barros, Doris Auxier, Derek Tan, Myrna Pfeifer, Edith Krause, Deb DeJong, Suzanne Laird, Diane Norrie, Rosemary Burden, Marguerite MacIntosh, Betty Spackman, Judy Jones, Janice Jones, Wendy Mould, Joel Libin, Dorthy Doherty, Danica Thiesson, Kristin Krimmel, Meghan Carich, Rosemary Wallace, Don Portelance and Jasmine Randhawa.
The opening and First Thursday event is being held Aug. 4 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Gallery, 9048 Glover Rd.
