It’s an instrument that looks straight out of Star Trek.
On Oct. 6 from 7 to 9 p.m., musician Dan Huget, aka neo V I O, will be performing his edgy electric violin at the Fort Gallery.
Using state-of-the-art sound processing, his violin can produce many different sounds, including electric guitar distortion, up-right bass, traditional eastern Serengi and mellow synth pads. And with on-the-fly recording, he can transform his songs from one violin into a duet, a power trio or even a symphony of harmonies.
The performance is part of the Fort Gallery’s First Thursday events — a tradition taking place on the first Thursday of each month, where the gallery invites a variety of visual artists, writers, poets and musicians from the local community to share their gifts and creations.
Also featured at the October event are gallery artists Don Portelance and Zuzana Vasko, who will talk about their work in the gallery’s current exhibit, Precarious Spaces.
Regular gallery hours are Wednesday to Sunday, noon to 5 p.m.
