Fraser Valley Stage transports the audience back to 1949 in Steinbach, Manitoba, in its latest production, starting Wednesday, Feb. 20.
Starlight Radio Theatre – Let There Be Love features the folks at CKUB Radio as they prepare for their weekly radio show.
Love is in (and on) the air for this episode as the story goes behind the scenes in Act 1 – where the cast deals with many stages of romantic love intertwined with drama and comedy.
“Whether or not you remember a time before YouTube, cellphones and even television, Starlight Radio Theatre promises a glimpse back to a time of delight and warmth when families pulled in together next to the old radio to listen to their favourite program,” said Faith Toronchuk, creator, writer and director of this vintage show.
In keeping with the period, the 17-piece Moonliters Big Band will be onstage playing classics like Taking a Chance on Love, Orange Colored Sky, It Had to be You and more.
Dancers from Abbotsford’s Suburban Swing will add their fancy footwork to the show, and in Act 2 (in front of the studio audience) the Love Letters contest will feature actual love letters written by local residents from decades ago.
Doris Davis (Adrienne Joiner) will give her latest Scoop on the Stars, and Jerome Valentino (Tony Roper) returns with his latest Private Eye installment.
“It’s been a lot of fun bringing this episode to the stage with so many talented people,” said Jim Tessaro, co-producer. “I know the audience will fall in love with it.”
Fraser Valley Stage celebrates its 50th anniversary of providing excellence in local theatre, and brings this third and final installment of the popular Starlight Radio Theatre series to the Abbotsford Arts Centre for just six performances from Feb. 20 to 24.
