The Fraser Valley Symphony presents an exciting finale concert of the season featuring award winning Mission pianist Paul Williamson on Sunday, June 11.
Williamson returns to the FVS stage to perform music from Beethoven’s poetic Piano Concerto No. 4, complementing this classical piece with Dvorak’s Symphony No. 8, perhaps his most beautiful and pastoral symphony.
Williamson studies piano performance in the Bachelor of Music program at the University of Manitoba. An award winner at local, provincial, and national competitions, he received first place in the BC Registered Music Teachers’ Association Piano Competition and was showcased in the BC Young Artists Tour during 2012-2013. In his first year of studies, Paul won his school’s concerto competition and received first place in the Lawrence Genser Scholarship competition. He has performed as soloist with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, the University of Manitoba Symphony Orchestra, the Abbotsford Youth Orchestra, and the Fraser Valley Symphony Orchestra where he was a past winner in their concerto competition.
Williamson has quickly become a popular collaborative pianist among the students at the university. He plans to complete his Bachelor of Music degree and continue his studies in graduate school.
Now in its 33rd year, the Fraser Valley Symphony is the premier community orchestra of the region. Lindsay Mellor is conductor.
Concert will be held at Matsqui Centennial Auditorium, 32315 South Fraser Way in Abbotsford, Sunday, June 11, at 3 p.m. Doors open at 2:30 p.m.
