If you love Latin music, jazz, funk and salsa you are going to be in for a wonderful evening with Gabriel Palatchi on keyboards, Marc Decho, electric bass and Chema Gonzales, drums at Studio Live.
The show is set for Sept. 6 at the Cumberland studio.
Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1982, Palatchi started his first piano lessons at the age of eight. He spent his formative years in Buenos Aires studying classical piano, and being mentored by some of the great maestros of blues, tango, jazz and Latin jazz.
After graduating in 2007 from Berklee International School, Argentina, he spent several months in Cuba where he studied Latin jazz with the master “Chucho” Valdez.
His first solo album Diario de Viaje (Travel Diary) in 2010 received critical acclaim from music industry journals and was chosen as one of the best Latin Jazz albums of the year by Jazz FM Toronto. He went on to record three further albums that cemented his unique sound, culminating in his fourth and latest album, Made in Canada (2018), which also happens to be his first live recording.
For the past eight years, Palatchi has been performing at major international music festivals, touring throughout Mexico, Canada and Europe.
His previous shows at Studio Live have thrilled the audience. The show starts at 8 p.m at 2679 Beaufort Avenue at First Avenue, Cumberland. Advance tickets, $20, are available at Bop City Records, Courtenay and Blue Heron Books, Comox or by e-transfer to studiolivestudio@gmail.com. At the door: $25.
