Galleries offer a stroll through winter artworks

Art lovers can take in an array of winter collections this month at the region’s galleries.

Art lovers can take in an array of winter collections this month at the region’s galleries.

On the Avenue, the Gage Gallery Arts Collective presents a collection of work inspired by Chinese proverb: “An invisible red thread connects those who are destined to meet regardless of time, place or circumstance. The thread may stretch or tangle, but it will never break.”

Through Jan. 7, the legend of The Red Thread of Fate or Destiny spans many cultures and has come to symbolize the past, present or future connections in our lives, a reminder that we are all connected in some way.

Enjoy a dynamic display of paintings, photos and sculpture from collective’s 19 artists, who have created unique pieces reflecting their perception of the proverb.

Also on-site is the new Collaboration Gallery, featuring a selection of small works from the artists, offering gift-giving ideas for the season.

At The Avenue Gallery, All That Glitters continues to Dec. 24, showcasing beautiful creations from the gallery’s jewellery artists, in addition to new paintings, sculpture and ceramics.

At Oak Bay’s Winchester Galleries, through Dec. 23, take in Joe Fafard’s Creatures Great and Small, including an array of animal sculptures both inside the gallery and out. Joining Fafard at Winchester is Joe Coffey, with his Symbiosis exhibition and Antoine Bittar, with Subtle Perceptions.

Down the Avenue, Eclectic gallery invites art lovers to stroll its Small Works with more than 100 pieces of original artwork by local artists just in time for the holiday season.

In Cadboro Bay, Goward House presents an art show and sale of Chinese brush painting through Jan. 25. Visit weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. or view a preview of the exhibition at gowardhouse.com/artshow.

Downtown, West End Gallery invites guests to Adorn with Art Dec. 10 to 30.

Back by popular demand, the gallery presents Adorn with Art II, with participating artists painting an exclusive new collection of artwork in a variety of styles and prices for all the people on your list.

Painters this year Claudette Castonguay, Rod Charlesworth, Greta Guzek, Gabryel Harrison, Patricia Johnston, Paul Jorgensen, Michael Rozenvain, Deborah Tilby and many others. From three-dimensional artists, find sculpture and glasswork from artists such as Dulce Alba Lindeza, Robert Held, Tammy Hudgeon, Darren Petersen, Paull Rodrigue and David Thai.

Join the gallery from 1 to 4 p.m. this Saturday, Dec. 10, for the opening reception.

Madrona Gallery hosts Deck the Walls VII, through Dec. 23. The group exhibition showcases the diversity of work from the Madrona artists, including new pieces by Meghan Hildebrand, Nicholas Bott, Rick Bond, Nancy Ruhl, Linda Jones, Claude Langevin, and others, alongside Inuit and historic Canadian works.

At Alcheringa Gallery through Dec. 31 enjoy From the Heavens: A season in silver and gold, featuring beautiful pieces from Catherine Blackburn, Chris Cook III, Bil Helin, Dorothy Jarvis, Edward Jow, Mark Preston and Ernest Swanson.

Stop by the Robert Bateman Centre for Boxed Sanctuary, a collection of work by local artists exploring personal expressions of sanctuary, on through Feb. 28
