Gallery 7 Theatre holds auditions for next production

Pride and Prejudice to be staged at Abbotsford Arts Centre in November

Gallery 7 Theatre holds open auditions on Sept. 4 and 5 for its next production, Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, adapted by Canadian playwright Tom Wood.

The auditions takes place at the theatre’s rehearsal hall (34595 Third Ave.) in Abbotsford and are open to all performers ages 14 to 75.

Those interested in working behind the scenes as assistant stage managers, running crew or tech operators are also invited to attend the audition.

“The production will provide artists and technicians a great opportunity to explore and share this beloved tale of love, family and friendship,” says Ken Hildebrandt, Gallery 7’s artistic director.

With her daughters reaching marriageable age and the family finances running dangerously thin, Mrs. Bennet endeavours to find the perfect match for each of her girls. But her plans are stymied when Elizabeth, upon hearing not-so-kind comments from the surly and morose Mr. Darcy, develops a hostility towards the man.

Can the two overcome their personal pride and the prejudice they feel towards each other and discover true love?

This lavish production is a faithful adaptation of the Austen favourite filled with comedy, wit and charm.

Directing Pride and Prejudice will be Nicola Prigge, a highly experienced theatre director, actor and graduate of the Trinity Western University theatre program.

Prigge recently directed a production of The Hunchback of Notre Dame and appeared in Gallery 7 Theatre’s production of Doubt, a Parable as Sister James last January.

Pride and Prejudice will run Nov. 9 and 10 and 13-17 at 7:30 p.m. with matinees on Nov. 10 and 17 at 2 p.m. at the Abbotsford Arts Centre.

Rehearsals will begin Sept. 12. The cast will play up to 26 characters with doubling.
