Gallery 7 Theatre hosts The Actor’s Bootcamp, a series of performance-based workshops for emerging and veteran actors, as part of its 25th anniversary season, starting Sept. 22.

Leading the workshops will be award-winning professional actor and Abbotsford resident Erla Faye Forsyth.

A graduate of Studio 58 in Vancouver, Forsyth has performed in numerous productions over the years at Pacific Theatre in Vancouver, including The Foreigner and How to Write a New Book for the Bible, for which she received Jessie Richardson awards.

Other credits include It’s a Wonderful Life for the Arts Club and Since You Left Us for Presentation House Theatre.

Participants may register for individual workshops or for the entire series at a discounted rate.

Each workshop runs for three sessions, and each session takes place from 7 to 10 p.m. at the theatre’s rehearsal hall, #100 – 34595 Third Ave. in Abbotsford.

The first workshop, Voice and Movement, runs Sept. 22, 29 and Oct. 6. Participants will explore vocal warm-ups and development exercises, as well as breath support, diction and projection. Freeing and relaxing the body and using the body to communicate character and emotion will also be explored.

The second workshop is Character and Scene Work, taking place Nov. 24, Dec. 1 and 8.

Participants will focus on how to develop a strong character: making choices; asking the right questions and finding the answers; text analysis; exercises and techniques to discover and explore character; and projecting character in small and large performance venues.

The final workshop, The Actor’s Tool Box, runs Feb. 23, March 1 and 8. This workshop will focus on building foundational acting and performance techniques that every actor should know.
