The McMillan Arts Centre is showcasing ceramic sculpture, paintings and photography during the month of October. The exhibition and sale runs from Oct. 1-31, with an opening reception on Friday Oct. 3 from 7-9 pm.
Corry Lunn is a clay sculptor and copper enamel artist from Union Bay whose dynamic work is inspired by our coastal surroundings. She and partner Darrel Nygaard have worked together to create three dimensional ceramic sculptures, wall plaques and other vessels that will be exhibited in the Oceanside Gallery. Some pieces are burnished, creating a smooth and lustrous surface, while others are Raku or pit-fired. Their larger sculptures are often mounted on weathered driftwood for hanging and display.
The Arrowsmith Artists Group began showing their work together 15 years ago and the October exhibition contains artwork from seven members. Four of the founding group, Marjorie Dunlop, Penny Marshall, Olivia Mennie and Heather Watson, will be joined in the Concert Gallery by Helen Binns, Luke Downs and Micheline Mensser. The exhibition features both paintings and photography. These artists are a talented, happy, lively, friendly and fun group. Members of the group have won awards and honours for their work.
Helen Binns will also stage a solo exhibition in the Nemeth Gallery. Titled “In My Father’s Garden”, the watercolours have been inspired by flora and fauna from his garden in Nanoose Bay. Each piece captures the colour, texture and feeling associated with this delightful setting.
