Genie released in Armstrong

Students from Armstrong’s Len Wood Middle School have been transported to the Middle East, and it only took the rubbing of a magic lamp.

Students from Armstrong’s Len Wood Middle School have been transported to the Middle East, and it only took the rubbing of a magic lamp.

Actually it’s taken hundreds of hours by the dedicated students, parents and Len Wood music teacher/director Deborah Mehes to stage the school’s current production of Aladdin, which finishes its three-day, mostly sold-out run at Armstrong’s Centennial Theatre auditorium today.

With music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice, Aladdin features all the romance, intrigue and adventure, along with the feisty heroine, charming hero, magical mentor and evil villain made famous in the Disney classic.

“More than 100 students in Len Wood’s performing arts program have been working since September to recreate the story, songs and spectacle,” said Mehes, adding this isn’t your average middle school play.

“With costumes by Calowna Costumes, professional lighting and set design, and an enthusiastic and talented cast, this show (has been) a treat for the entire family.”
