The Master of Ceremonies this year at the main stage in the 2014 Fort Langley Canada Day Celebrations will be Professor Douglas Fraser. Fraser is a jazz and blues musician and vocalist who will also be performing the opening and closing set this year in Fort Langley.
He is a musicologist; a professor of musical history and historian, and he will be delighting the audience with vintage material on banjo and tenor guitar in a style that has made him a standout performer at festivals throughout North America.
Fraser, who lives in Langley, has just published his second book, entitled; “Early Entertainment” the evolution of show business in North America from 1840 to 1940. It is available at Amazon on Kindle and soon to be released in paperback.
He has just returned from a performance tour in the U.S. and will be lecturing and performing in New Orleans this fall. Watch for him as band leader of The Genuine Jug Band at the Abbotsford Berry Festival July 5 and 6. The percussion unit in the band, which Douglas designed and built, will be featured in the August issue of “Modern Drummer Magazine.”
