Halloween night has always attracted big crowds at the Meadowood Fire Hall but this year’s party will be bigger, louder and brighter than ever.

The Dashwood Volunteer Fire Department and the Corcan and Meadowood Residents Association (CRMA) are hosting what they call Corcarnival behind the Meadowood store.

The annual Halloween haunt has attracted up to 800 people in the past and this year organizers are gearing up for at least 1,000.

Everyone is invited to what is being described as a freaky carnival themed event from 6:30 to 9 p.m. ending with a huge fireworks display.

There will be hotdogs, popcorn, warm beverages, crafts and a play area for younger kids and for those who dare, a haunted walk with a few new oddities.

Volunteers Tim Peligren and David Jones are taking the event to the next level and adding pyrotechnics and animatronics.

The two completed a pyrotechnics course and now have the skills to create the kind of special effects you would normally see at a rock concert.

Jones said they are making the haunted walk bigger and scarier.

“It will be amazing.  The members have put a lot into it and the special effects will include lights and smoke and it will be loud,” he warned.

He said as you make your way through the walk there will be explosions and other effects going off continuously for two hours.

“You will see it and feel it.  We are using air bursts, flame throwers and more.”

He said the special effects are what the professionals use in the movie industry and he has been certified to do it safely.

Jones has also been dabbling in animatronics and he has created some skeletons that talk and some other creepy characters including Serena the fortune telling gypsy that will add to the ambiance.

There will be road flares around the scary walk and warning signs alerting people about the potentially frightening atmosphere.

There will also fun for the little kids including a fishing pond and for those who want to channel their inner Michael Jackson and perform Thriller, there will be a stage and a Karaoke tent.

It all takes place at the Meadowood Fire Hall also known as firehall 62 located at 1800 Galvin Place.
