The Q City Singers are set to serenade the city into the holiday season.
The 55-person choir is putting the final touches on its holiday performance “A Comedic Christmas Choir Concert: Laughing All The Way!” during dress rehearsals this week.
The group will be performing the concert Friday, Dec. 6 and Saturday, Dec 7 at 7 p.m. at the Bethel Church at 143 Coach Rd. N. in Southhills.
The choir has been rehearsing for the performances since September, and according to Q City Singers president Katrina Scott, the show will have something for everyone.
“The concert is a good mix of traditional Christmas music with entertainment and jokes mixed in, so it should be a good time and put people in the mood for the season,” says Scott.
Since its inception in 2015, the community choir group has been growing both in its membership, which now sees up to 60 singers join the choir each year, as well as its popularity within the community.
“It’s pretty crazy you know — we used to have a tough time getting 50 people into the room, and now we are selling out two nights in a row at 250 seats!” says Scott.
The choir is made up of Quesnel residents of a wide range of ages and backgrounds. This is something Scott believes plays a big part in its growing following within the community.
“A lot of it [the popularity] is just because of the nature of our group,” she said. “It really truly is an inclusive community-based group that unites people of all ages from every corner of the community, bringing them together.”
The choir will take a quick break after the holiday performances and then be back in the rehearsal studio in January to begin preparing for performances in the spring. They will also be accepting new members in the new year, so anyone interested in singing their heart out is encouraged to reach out to the choir through social media or their website.
Tickets for both performances are on sale now and can be purchased at Save On Foods or at the door on the night of the performance at a cost of $20 for adults, $15 for students and seniors and $10 for children 12 and younger.
Scott warns, however, that anyone who wants to attend either performance should pick up their tickets early, as shows have sold out in advance for the last two years in a row.
