The Kersley Players are promising swashbuckling, swordplay and shanties in their upcoming dinner theatre presentation.
According to co-director Don Peeke-Vout, there will also be barnacles, cannons and much more in their performances of The Incredible Pickled Pigeon Pirate Chase.
“There’s private investigating and a lot of scallywagging,” he says. “And great foaming flagons of grog.”
The Incredible Pickled Pigeon Pirate Chase is a comedy by Roy Teed, which was originally written in 1992. The Kersley Players’ performances will begin Nov. 9.
“It is really funny,” says Peeke-Vout, who is co-directing the play with Stacey Poirier and is also acting in the production. “This is a ridiculous and funny script. We get together and do a lot of read-throughs, and it’s a good sign that we’re still laughing our butts off. It’s a classic Roy Teed script.”
Peeke-Vout describes the play as adult comedy.
“It’s not that it’s super mature and dramatic – it’s actually wildly immature,” he laughs, but he warns there is one cuss word.
The play features a cast of 10, and they have been rehearsing since the beginning of October. Six of the cast members are new to the Kersley Players.
“We have a lot of new faces, which has been really fun,” says Peeke-Vout.
The play’s cast includes Peeke-Vout, David Warner, Jennie Goodenough, Kendra Gauthier, Kristina Kennedy, Lana Johnson, Michael Diebolt, Penny Ann Hendricks, Todd Dunphy and Tyler Rosewood.
The Incredible Pickled Pigeon Pirate Chase dinner theatre presentations will take place Nov. 9, 10, 16 and 17 at the Kersley Community Hall. Dinner is at 6:30 p.m., and the show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in advance only at K-Max Games and Videos.
Each dinner is hosted by a Kersley community group, and proceeds from the evening go to that group. The Kersley Women’s Institute will be hosting dinner Nov. 9, while the Kersley Community Association is hosting dinner Nov. 10 and 16. The proceeds from the Nov. 17 dinner theatre presentation will go to the Kersley Players.
The Kersley Players will present The Incredible Pickled Pigeon Pirate Chase as a performance only, without dinner, Nov. 15 at 7:30 p.m. at the Kersley Community Hall. Tickets for this performance can be purchased at the door, or in advance at K-Max Games and Videos and the Kersley General Store.
