Twenty local artists will paint on location in downtown Salmon Arm Saturday, Aug. 6.
The seventh year of SAGA Public Art Gallery’s Paint the Town will be Parisian style; inspired by the original event that takes place in Paris each year.
Unlike past years, artists will not choose their location. That will be determined by a random draw immediately before the event.
“In this, the final year of Paint the Town, the mysterious outcome will be an exciting new element,” says gallery executive director Tracey Kutschker.
Local artists will draw or paint en pleine aire, with each artist working at their location from 9 a.m. to noon, perhaps longer.
The resulting artwork will be installed at the gallery in the late afternoon, with a reception to follow at 7 p.m.
Everyone is invited to view the fresh faces of art while enjoying live music and a delicious selection of wine and cheese.
The works will be exhibited from Aug. 6 to 27, and up for sale in a silent auction.
Bidding closes at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27.
“This is a fundraiser for the gallery, and an excellent opportunity to purchase some wild and wonderful local art,” Kutschker says.
A map with the names of the featured artists will be available at various businesses in the downtown area, and at the gallery.
Gallery hours are Tuesday to Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Family Saturdays run weekly at 2 p.m. This free drop-in art-making program is open to families with children of all ages.
Many of the artists will be in attendance at Coffee Break from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18.
