The Spring Concert on May 29 at Prince Charles Theatre could have been alternately called Concert of the Kootenays as it brings together some very talented singers and songwriters from across the area. It should be a fun night as this circle of musical friends performs a diversity of their original songs and innovative arrangements of other country, blues, Celtic and maritime favorites.
Tim Plouffe will be opening the concert with his original country compositions and unique style that won him entertainer of the year at the Budweiser Country Festival in Grande Prairie two years in a row. Plouffe grew up in Creston and graduated from Prince Charles Secondary School. This is a rare opportunity to hear him perform as family commitments are his main priority these days.
Kootenay Jack (Jack Kenny) from Fruitvale is a talented singer-songwriter who has a number of CD releases to his credit. From his toe tapping rockabilly to his gentle ballads, he tells the story of a long and interesting life playing music that reflects his love for both!
Trena Spears from Cranbrook won the Kootenays’ Best Singer competition in 2012 and has spent her time since then composing, performing and recording her original songs and raising a family. You will love Spears’ beautiful voice and the diversity of the country and blues songs she has written.
Peanut Butter and Jam is a musical quartet living in the Creston Valley. The group members are Julie Groot on lead/harmony vocals, flute and penny whistles, Shirley Cameron on lead /harmony vocals, EWI (electronic wind instrument) and pennywhistle, Bob Gollan on lead/harmony vocals and guitar, Ted Bryant on bass guitar and vocals. PB&J love to sing and play music together and with others. Their main interest is in Celtic and maritime music, but sing all kinds of music with their own unique arrangements.
The Spring Concert will be an entertaining informal night of great music performed by good friends with lots of talent.
The show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $17 for couple, $7 for seniors/students and $20 for families (any size), available at Black Bear Books, Kingfisher Used Books and at door.
