Often referred to as the “Hendrix of acoustic guitar,” Don Alder is returning to the North Okanagan on a B.C. Interior tour.
He plays Lorenzo’s Café in Ashton Creek Saturday, Sept. 19.
The multi-award winning acoustic guitarist, who last played for the Vernon Folk-Roots Music Society in 2014, is just off a recent European tour and continues to wow audiences around the world with his “jaw dropping” one-man band act.
Also known as Rick Hansen’s wheel man during the Man in Motion tour, Alder will perform songs from various albums, including his new CD, Armed & Dangerous.
The album’s original material includes fiery guitar instrumentals fusing folk, world and even bluegrass sounds, which Alder describes as “honest music from the heart”.
Alder’s deeply textured guitar playing explores the notes – some passionate and haunting, some hard-driven, others light and teasing. In quiet pieces or pushing right to the edge, his style of playing incorporates fingerpicking with simultaneous percussion, and his voice to create a wall of sound.
Alder’s performance at Lorenzo’s Café (901 Mabel Lake Rd., east of Enderby) starts at 8 p.m.
