Guitarist brings blues to town

Juno Award-winning guitarist Ken Hamm brings his repertoire of original and traditional blues and roots material to town for a concert a Headliners School of Performing Arts Feb. 25 at 8p.m.

Over the past 34 years, Hamm built an international reputation through extensive touring in Canada, Africa, the UK and Europe.

He has eight albums to his credit and is currently touring to promote the release of Live ‘05, a double-disc set of live recordings of blues and original favourites.

Hamm earned the 2010 Great Canadian Blues Award, chosen by CBC Radio listeners for the blues artist who has made a life-time contribution to the genre.

Tickets for the show are $20/advance and for Nanaimo Blues Society members; $25/door.

Hamm is also well-known as a guitar instructor, offering courses from two hours to five days in length. His hard-driving fingerstyle and slide techniques are the envy of many players. He shares his knowledge in a workshop Feb. 26, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Headliners. Cost is $35 and students should bring a guitar, tuner, slide and any kind of recording device.
