Four internationally acclaimed guitarists will strum passionate melodies during an acoustic performance at the Port Theatre.
International Guitar Night returns to Nanaimo with a performance Friday (Jan. 15) at the Port Theatre. The show features four guitarists: Brian Gore, Mike Dawes, Andre Krengel and Lulu Reinhardt.
Gore, who founded guitar night in 1995, draws his inspiration from myths and modern literature.
“Music started out as a kind of therapy for me,” said Gore, in his biography. “Consequently, I am a very emotional player. Now, my style of playing has also become a well-honed craft. I am very grateful I can share this with people.”
Gore combines newer percussion techniques into his music while striving to preserve the poetic nature of the songs.
“Because my music is simple and somewhat rootsy, it’s easy to relate to, which is something I’m thankful for,” said Gore. “It also keeps me grounded.”
Reinhardt, grand nephew of the legendary Django Reinhardt, known for his passionate Gypsy jazz guitar playing, builds on his cultural roots, while exploring newer sounds and techniques.
Dawes, released his debut single in 2012 and since then has toured with Justin Hayward of The Moody Blues and played guitar for various artists, such as Gotye, for their albums.
Krengel is known as a versatile guitar player and in 2006 won the Culture Award for Music and Composing in Dusseldorf, Germany.
International Guitar Night features solos, duets and quartets. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. A pre-show chat is at 6:45 p.m. in the Harmac Room.
Tickets are $40 for adults and $15 for students. Please call 250-754-8550 or go to www.porttheatre.com.
