Wanna-be zombies, goblins and ghouls – it’s time to get your best costumes out of the closet and prepare for South Cariboo Community Concerts’ Halloween Dance Party.

It promises to be a spooktacular night filled with haunting tunes delivered by New Age Entertainment DJ service, incredible costume contest cash prizes, a lot of eerie special effects and out-of-this-world decorations.

The dance is set to take place on Oct. 29, starting at 6:30 p.m. at the 100 Mile Community Hall, with decorating done by local chainsaw girl Liz McMann.

Rob Fry, from Community Concerts, says McMann has a good reputation as a special events decorator.

“We’re expecting some good stuff from her. She’s got quite a talent for this kind of thing.”

Lasers, fog machines and special lighting will all add to the effect and make this a night to remember he says.

Fry anticipates the huge cash prizes being offered for best costumes will stir the imagination and draw out some over-the-top getups.

“In the past, costumes have been absolutely incredible and people spend a lot of money putting them together. You never know what you’re going to see.”

First prize in the contest is $300, second prize is $200 and the third-place winner gets $100. There is also a $400 cash prize for the best-dressed group.

The Lac la Hache Minor Hockey club will also benefit from a 50/50 draw, which will be made during the night.

Dance party tickets are $25 a person and that includes all of the fun you can handle and a midnight snack with assorted meats, cheeses and buns.

There’s a no-host bar, and to get people home safely after the party, a service will be available to drive you and your vehicle home.

The party is for adults only, and Fry is expecting a good crowd.

“Adults just love Halloween and these dances have always been well attended in the past. I think Halloween is one of the biggest nights of the year for a lot of people.”

There is a maximum of 250 tickets to be sold and they can be purchased up to, and including the day of the event at Didi’s, Donex, Work n Play and 108 Supermarket.
