Haney puts on party for fathers and families

A special Father’s Day celebration will take place at the village on Sunday June 19

Dads are special at R.J. Haney Heritage Village & Museum.

A special Father’s Day celebration will take place at the village on Sunday June 19, starting off with a pancake breakfast at Marjorie’s Tea Room.

Explore how the Shuswap pioneers lived and played while discovering the stories of the area’s rich, local history.

Children can challenge their dads to a game of croquet or discover the pioneer secrets of the Shuswap’s largest heritage park with a special  scavenger hunt.

Remember to enter Dad’s name for the Father’s Day door prize draw.  Then visit the Haney house and see how the Haney family lived in 1910.

Enjoy wagon rides, Haney’s old fashion carnival with games of chance and skill, face painting, children’s crafts, panning for gold and a barbecue lunch.

The village will be filled with displays and demonstrations from the Shuswap Pioneer Collectors Club, the Shuswap Spinners and Weavers, the Shuswap Quilters Guild and Neil Sutcliffe and his Vintage Radio Collection.

The popular Circle Time with Tanya will be back.

“Children can participate in activities that involve interactive songs like Itsy Bitsy Spider and Slippery Fish, with movement, to promote early literacy and good old fashioned fun,” says village manager Susan Mackie.

“Join Tanya at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 and 12:30 p.m. for Circle Time.”

Local entertainer Bruce Strachan will have you tapping your toes and singing along to your favourite songs starting at 9 a.m.

Bruce has played throughout the US and Western Canada, performing songs that are crowd favourites. Currently he stays busy appearing in the local Salmon Arm music scene.

R.J. Haney Heritage Village and Museum is located at 751 Hwy. 97 B, across from Drivers Car and Truck Sales.

The gate is open at 8:30 am. Admission for adults is $6, children five to 13 are $4 and children under four are free. For more information, call  250-832-5243.
