• Delta Stageworks Mother’s Day Writing Workshop Contest: On now through April 30; Are you a new Canadian or landed immigrant living in Delta? Does your mother have a story that needs to be told this Mother’s Day? Delta Stageworks is holding a contest for a 250 word story that celebrates your mother’s life. The story can be about any event you remember that has stayed with you. • 2021 Community Banner Contest: On now through June 30; online; The City of Delta is proud to present the Community Banner Contest, a competition to create a street banner that will raise awareness of Delta’s natural beauty, culture, and heritage. Residents are invited to submit their designs (or photographs) for the annual contest, and a volunteer panel made up of local artists and a member of Delta’s Heritage Advisory Commission will select four winners, one for each of the following categories: Delta Heritage (open category), Discover Delta (open category), Emerging Artist (ages 13 to 17 years) and Aspiring Artist (up to 12 years old). The winning design from each category will be displayed on street banners throughout Delta from January to May. • Get Ready Delta Community Workshop: April 28, 6:30 p.m. to 8 30 p.m.; via Zoom; Join Delta Fire & Emergency Services Community Liaison Marc Jubinville and Captain Dave Ayton for this free workshop to teach you the risks, how to make an emergency plan and what to put in your kit in the event of an emergency or disaster. • Anger Management Group: Thursdays starting April 22; via Zoom; This free group from Deltassist will teach participants the skills of effective communication, problem-solving, listening, conflict resolution, impulse control, stress management and coping strategies in relationships that may or may not contain abuse. Note: This group is for people who have not been charged with, or are not currently facing charges related to, domestic violence. Come up with a chariot attachment that allows your Sphero to carry around quarters and enter our official Sphero Quarter Carrying Challenge. • My Mother’s Story: May 4-25, 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.; via Zoom; Delta Stageworks Theatre Society is hosting a four-week online writing workshop called “My Mother’s Story” led by Marilyn Norry, Vancouver actor, author, and member of Delta Stageworks’ artistic team for 2021. “The journey you’ll take … is to write the story of your mother’s life, from beginning to end, just the facts, where you are just one of the facts. All in 2,000 words,” Norry says. “In writing this story you will discover things about yourself, your mother and your family that perhaps you never knew before.” My Mother’s Story will run Tuesday evenings from May 4-25 via Zoom — you do not have to have prior writing experience, and a series of exercises and editing guidance are provided. Delta residents and City of Delta staff are invited celebrate Earth Day with the City od Delta by participating in the 13th Annual Earth Day Photo Contest! This year’s theme is “Gardens for Nature.” Submit your unaltered photo at letstalkdelta.ca/earthdaycontest, including the photographer’s name, title of the photo and a short description of how the photo subject benefits nature. Deadline for entry is Friday, April 30. Three winners from will be selected from each category — “Adult” (age 18+), “Teen” (12-17), “Youth” (5-11) and “City of Delta staff” (not eligible for the grand prize). One grand prize winner will be chosen out of all eligible entries received, and a “Fan Favourite” will also be chosen based on the number of votes received from Delta residents May 1-14.

• The Flame: Hope Springs Eternal Edition: now through May 11; online; Surrey Civic Theatres presents another Digital Stage online performance showcasing a variety of storytellers from across the Lower Mainland and beyond, with host Deb Williams. • Delta Virtual Triathlon: May 1-16, various locations; In an effort to encourage residents to remain active during the COVID-19 pandemic, while also maintaining the health and safety guidelines set by the provincial health order, the City of Delta is excited to announce the Delta Virtual Triathlon. While the swim component will require pre-registration for lane space at Ladner Outdoor Pool, the bike and run components can be completed at any time between May 1 and 16.
