• Bog Escape – Merlin: Aug. 18-20; Delta Nature Reserve; As Merlin’s apprentices, you’re the first ones called upon when Merlin goes missing. Can you navigate this magical land, using everything he’s taught you, and rescue him before it’s too late? Bog Escape merges two things that the Burns Bog Conservation Society is passionate about: escape rooms and the great outdoors. Invite your family and friends to step outside to solve a series of puzzles while discovering the mystery of the natural world that surrounds you. • Paws 4 Stories: Aug. 19, 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.; George Mackie Library; Paws 4 Stories is a St. John’s Ambulance therapy dog community service that promotes improvement in children’s reading skills. When a child reads with a dog, they start to relax and forget about feeling nervous about reading. (Dogs make very supportive listeners.) Therapy dogs and their volunteers will listen to children who want to practice reading aloud. This is a free program for ages 6 and up. Space is limited. so please register by phone or in person after 10 a.m. on the day of the program for your 15-minute reading session.

• Starry Night: Aug 19; Deas Island Regional Park; Join us at Starry Night for an evening to explore nature and Deas Island Park by starlight, featuring nature discovery stations, crafts, drumming entertainment, and a lantern-lit evening walk along a one-kilometer trail. Bring your flashlight to illuminate hidden surprises. More details to come.

• Trinity Lutheran Kids Camp: Aug. 21-25, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Trinity Lutheran Church, 11040 River Rd.; Campers ages 5-12 will experience songs, games, skits and stories of God’s love for everyone. Daily outdoor play, weather permitting. All Kids Camp staff have completed criminal background checks. We respect all faith traditions as we explore the Judea-Christian tradition. • Concerts in the Park: The Flanagans: Aug. 23, 7 p.m.; North Delta Social Heart Plaza; Enjoy a free outdoor concerts within a park setting. The Flanagans bring Canadian folk/East Coast traditional tunes for a wonderful evening. Please bring your own blanket or lawn chair. Concerts are cancelled in inclement weather.

• Little Mermaid Auditions: Aug. 27 and 29; The Fraser Valley Gilbert and Sullivan Society is a charitable organization providing quality entertainment to our communities using local talent, including numerous children. The Society is holding auditions for its 2017 Christmas pantomime, “The Little Mermaid,” running Nov. 23 to Dec. 3 at the Surrey Arts Centre. It is looking for 30 or so people to fill a variety of roles, including leads, singers, dancers and a children’s chorus. The self-help systems used were developed by the late neuro-psychiatrist Abraham A. Low M.D. and have been helping people for over 70 years. Meetings are led by trained group leaders.
