An award winning guitarist who has played throughout Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, China and the United States is bringing his eclectic sound to the Shady Rest Pub this Saturday.
Eric Harper has recently released his second solo album, self-titled, capturing a variety of world music sounds.
“It’s an eclectic mixture of flamenco and rock with some nuances of Latin music and anything in between,” he said.
Harper’s previous album, Romper a madrugada, is sung entirely in Portuguese.
Harper was born in the United States and raised in Portugal. He graduated from the Berklee College of Music with a degree in film scoring (original music written specifically to accompany a film.) He recently finished co-composing music for the movie Inseparable starring Kevin Spacey, and has previously composed music for the films Waiting Alone and Missing Pieces, among others.
Harper also holds a diploma in classical music from the Professional School of Music of Porto.
Harper is currently based in Naniamo but never passes up the chance to travel and play his music. He said his music is greatly influenced by the places he goes.
“I love traveling,” he said, “I love the chance to play anywhere.”
Harper will be playing this Saturday, March. 5 at the Shady Rest in Qualicum Beach from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
