Hatzic Secondary hosting two farewell concerts

The Hatzic Secondary School Music Department is hosting two concerts in the next seven days as a way to say goodbye.

Next year, high schools in Mission are going to be reconfigured and Hatzic will become a middle school, teaching Grades 7-9.

On June 4, at 7 p.m., the school with present the concert A Farewell to Hatzic Secondary – Alumni Showcase. The event features grads from the last 10 years of the music department performing various numbers.

School doors open at 6:30 p.m. and tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students and seniors.

“It’s a way to honour the past decade of music at Hatzic, before the changes,” explained band teacher Julie Aldridge.

The following week, on June 11, the school will present it final year-end concert.

Aldridge said the show will feature all bands and choirs as well as a special jazz band comprised of the last 10 years of Hatzic Secondary music grads.

Tickets are available at the door and are $8 for adults and $5 for students and seniors.

Aldridge thinks the concerts are a great way to celebrate the school’s musical history.

As the new head of the music department, she is going to prepare a new curriculum aimed at the Grade 7-9 structure of the school.
