A group of young musicians with a fresh indie pop style and an increasingly large Canadian following are playing in Parksville next Tuesday. Hey Ocean! has been described as one of Canada’s best up-and-coming acts with original tunes that are upbeat and positive.

The group is made up of Ashleigh Ball, David Beckingham and David Vertesi, and each bring their own unique musical influences to the band.

“We all have a variety of different interests, I think that’s what keeps us pretty eclectic,” said Beckingham.

The group released their third full length album called IS in May and are currently on a 9-week tour, doing 50 shows in 65 days.

They will be  playing at the Parksville Community and Conference Centre (PCCC) Tuesday, Nov 13. Joining the group is The Archers, a Victoria folk-rock band made up of five young, stellar male musicians. Vancouver group The Belle Game will also perform some indie rock, orchestral pop tunes, with a hint of alternative country.

Hey Ocean! played at Voices in the Park in Vancouver in September, a concert benefitting the Sarah McLachlan School of Music, with big names like Stevie Nicks, Bryan Adams and Jann Arden. “That was pretty big for us to meet Stevie Nicks,” said Beckingham. The trio have played in Nanaimo, Victoria and Cumberland, but this will be their first show in Parksville.Check out this modern show for all ages Nov. 13 at 6:30 p.m. at the PCCC.

Advance tickets are $20 and at the door, $25. Tickets are available at PostNet in Errington, Shades of Green on Craig St. in Parksville, at the PCCC and at Cranky Dog Music.
