Highland dance competition on Saturday

Upcoming events include s Highland Dance Competition, Kootenay Danceworks presents "Footprints" and country singer Gord Bamford

Dance• The Trail Caledonia Society presents the Kate E Shaw Highland Dance competition as it kicks up its feet on Saturday at the Cominco Gym. Competition goes all day, tickets available at door, $5 adults, seniors $4, kids 12 and under free.

Kootenay Dance Works presents “Footprints.”  The annual year-end gala features performances by students of all ages, in all categories of dance. Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at the Charles Bailey Theatre.

Music• Trail Society for Performing Arts presents country singer Gord Bamford at the Charles Bailey Theatre at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, May 24. Tickets $42.50

Stage• Don’t miss the live Met broadcast of Wagner’s “Siegfried” at the Royal Theatre on Saturday. Curtain rises at 9 a.m.

Gallery• The VISAC gallery presents “In the Tragic We Trust” features large-format collages of pop-culture figures such as Marilyn Monroe by Angela Duclos, a Warfield native studying fine arts at UBC.Gallery open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday to Wednesday, 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday.

Health•  Mondays in May is biking day. Meet at Gerick’s Cycle for a free safety check then head out on a leisurely ride through the neighbourhood. Meet at Gerick’s May 22, 28 at 5p.m. for a fun and healthy pedal just be sure to bring your doctor’s blessing and a helmet.

Other• The Alliance Church is offering a “Meeting Place” every Tuesday afternoon from 1-4 p.m. where adults meet to visit, play games, do crafts and socialize. 3365 Laburnum Dr. everyone welcome. Call 368-9516 for more info.

Upcoming• Join Canadian Tire in celebrating Jumpstart Day, in recognition of its One Million Balls campaign that helps children participate in sports. Lots of activities planned for May 26 at Trail Canadian Tire with all proceeds going to the Jumpstart program.

• The J. L Crowe Players present “The Outsiders” at Charles Bailey Theatre, May 26 at 7:30 p.m. A stage adaptation based on the novel by S. E. Hinton. $12 admission.

• Sign up for Canadian Cancer Society’s Relay for Life May 26 at 10 a.m. at Haley Park. A chance to celebrate cancer survivors, remember those we’ve lost and join our communities to fight back, so that one day we won’t have to think about cancer. Call 364-0403 for more info.

• The Greater Trail Catholic Community invites all Parishioners to an open air mass and family picnic on Pentecost Sunday, May 27 at St. Michael’s School. Tickets must be purchased by Sunday. For more information please contact the Church at 368-6677.
