It’s time for the 40th annual ScotDance Canada Championship Series.
This is the largest Highland dance competition in the world.
More than 800 Highland dancers, many of them world class, will attend the championship from across Canada, the United States, Scotland, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.
This competition takes place in British Columbia every six years and is being held this year at the Olympic Oval in Richmond from July 2-6.
There will be dancing events for every age from 4-years-old to adult, and from all levels of experience – primary dancers just starting out, to premiers who have been dancing for many years.
A choreography competition and special events are also on the program, but the highlight will be the Canadian Highland Dance Championships, featuring the best dancers from each province competing for the national title in seven different age categories.
There will also be opportunities for the dancers to socialize outside of the competition at a banquet and the very popular pin exchange.
There are eight dancers from Campbell River, and their teachers, who will compete in this five-day event.
Their ages range from 9-to-16-years-old and they have been practicing very hard to prepare.
All of the local competitors are looking forward to this rare opportunity to meet dancers from around the world and see National and World Champions compete.
