Fifteen short films have now been selected for the Vancouver Island Short Film Festival taking place in Nanaimo next month.
Among them is The Magic Ferret, directed by former Victoria resident Alison Parker. The 11-minute film is about a young orphan named Sam who yearns to find a home, so he and his pet ferret Booger conjure up some magic.
Other films include NASA Conspiracy by Graham Stark and Floodplain by Jeremy Lutter. The latter film is about two high school sweethearts who learn that love demands sacrifice when they fulfill a childhood promise to raft across a floodplain in the Kootenay Valley.
Tickets for the ninth annual VISFF are available online at www.visff.com/tickets. They cost $10 for students and $15 for general admission.
Films this year exhibit a range from drama to animation and everything in between. The festival will feature two screenings of selected films on Feb. 7 and 8 at the Malaspina Theatre at Vancouver Island University’s Nanaimo campus. They take place at 7 p.m. both nights with an award ceremony at the second screening.
