The CP Holiday Train rolled into Castlegar Tuesday evening with lights twinkling, and the spectacle raised the holiday spirit of those who were there for the show.
Close to 1,000 people participated in the event which included free hot dogs and hot apple cider served by city councillors.
The main purpose of the event was to raise funds for local food banks. The Community Harvest Food Bank was presented with a $6,000 cheque from Canadian Pacific and local realtor Joanne Bursey donated $1,500. In addition, the food bank collected numerous individual donations bringing the total to $10,000. They also loaded a trailer with 700 pounds of food that were donated by attendees.
The highlight of the evening was the enthusiastic performance by Alan Doyle and The Beautiful Band. The band had the crowd dancing, clapping and singing along.
