Violinist Calvin Dyck is among those featured at a hymns celebration on Aug. 4.

A concert to raise funds for Abbotsford’s homeless takes place Thursday, Aug. 4.

The hymns celebration features Calvin and Heather Dyck with guests Phyllis and Wes Geddert from Winnipeg. It starts at 7 p.m. at Clearbrook Mennonite Brethren Church, 2719 Clearbrook Rd.

As suggested by the title of her CD, Joyful, Phyllis Geddert finds music to be a joyful expression of God’s faithfulness and love.

Just as life is experienced in various “keys” with changing dynamics and styles, Phyllis’s piano arrangements of favourite hymns remind us of our own heritage and experiences of looking for God’s shelter.

From her earliest memories, many of the great hymn melodies have been an integral part of her faith heritage.

It is her hope that these hymns will continue to inspire people of all ages with their timeless messages.

Admission is free, but an offering will be collected, and Phyllis’ Joyful CD will be available for $15, with all proceeds going toward supporting the homeless.

The purpose of the concert is to bring the community together for an evening of song and to raise funds to support Abbotsford’s homeless through Mennonite Central Committee B.C.’s Homelessness Prevention and Outreach Program.

The program offers loans low-barrier housing, community meals, and loans for rent and utilities.
