The 2011 South Cariboo Idols are gearing up for their finale concert, slated for Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. at Martin Exeter Hall. The winners will be announced Sept. 11 at the South Cariboo Community Fall Fair.

Since May, the 2011 South Cariboo Idols top 10 have been performing their hearts out at different events, hoping to win the favour of the contest’s judging panel.

Each of them has grown steadily as a performer, but the race for the top comes to an end on Sept. 10 when these talented singers have their final showdown concert at Martin Exeter Hall. That’s when judges should hear them at their best and make their choices for the top 3 winners.

There will be solos, duets and group performances and the music will be representative of the Idols’ favourite artists and songs.

Up to then, judges will have a pretty good idea of who deserves to be in the winners’ circle, having heard them perform at six or seven events and watched numerous music video clips, which have been posted on YouTube.

They’ve been looking for solid vocals, interaction with the audience and movement on the stage, and according to Rob Fry, who has been running the contest, all of the contestants have lived up to expectations.

He says the superior acoustics of Martin Exeter Hall will bring out the true sounds of voices and allow the judges to write in stone the final finish order.

According to Fry, it’s been a tight race.

“This is the strongest Idol group, ever, but their true colours will shine that night. Hopefully, they all have a special moment.”

At the concert, the public will also have their last chance to vote on their pick for the People’s Choice award.

On Sept. 11, the announcement of results will be made at the South Cariboo Community Fall Fair just after 3 p.m. It will follow a special performance by the Idols, which takes place from 1:30 to 3 p.m. on the outdoor stage.

The Idols will share close to $10,000 in prize money, with the top 3 taking home the lion’s share. In addition, they will continue to record in Fry’s studio, as they have done over the past few months, and all will get air play of their music on Cariboo Radio.com Internet radio.

They will be selling tickets for the Martin Exeter Hall finale show Sept. 9-10 at a Fall Fair booth. The ticket price is $10 and the show starts at 7 p.m., with doors open at 6:30 p.m.
