Elegant acrobatics, graceful aerials and stunning choreography will transform the Chilliwack Cultural Centre into a world turned inside out as CircusWest returns to town on November 2 with Illusive – A Circus of Possibilities.
Inspired by the illustrations of MC Escher, Illusive follows young entertainers as they bring Escher’s so-called impossible worlds to reality through the magic of circus. Through their daring acts of coordination, balance, and flight, the citizens of CircusWest will join forces as their once normal reality morphs into worlds filled with tessellations, fractals and spirals, polyhedral, and impossible geometry.
Come and witness Western Canada’s top young circus talent as they achieve awe inspiring acts of coordination and skill, dream big, push their limits, and in the end — defy gravity.
It starts as a normal day for the CircusWest citizens, but their world is quickly turned upside down—sometimes quite literally.
From a two-dimensional world to a forest made of fractals to a world of optical illusions, the incredible cast of characters must find their way through these worlds and discover a way to bring their reality back to the way that it should be.
Originally started in 1984, CircusWest is Vancouver’s circus performance arts society. The non-profit charity school provides individuals of all ages the opportunity to explore circus arts in an encouraging and non-competitive environment, helping develop technique and performance skills, passion, confidence, and a sense of community. Each year, CircusWest creates a unique and astonishing production, and each performance is guaranteed to leave you in total awe.
MC Escher once said, “my work is a game, a very serious game.”
And the talented performers of CircusWest don’t back down from the incredible worlds he created in this performance. So come fly with CircusWest, as they take you into their world of possibilities.
