Heather Keizur will be drawing from the songs and artists that inspire her most when she takes to the Lighthouse Bistro stage on March 31.
“Sometimes it’s the songs that inspire us, the ones that really touch us in a way that compels us to sing them,” the Portland, Ore.-based jazz singer said. “Sometimes [it’s] the way the artist sings that song and sometimes it’s the message of the song. So we wanted to share some of those favourites.”
Keizur, keyboardist Steve Christofferson and guest bassist Ken Lister will perform a program heavy on mid-century jazz vocalists like Tony Bennett, Nat King Cole and Edith Piaf.
Keizur spent much of her youth in B.C. and on Vancouver Island and expects to see old acquaintances at the concert.
“That’s something that makes it really special when we come to Vancouver Island is being able to see my family and friends from years gone by,” she said. “And also just being on Vancouver Island. It’s such a beautiful place that it inspires beautiful music.”
WHAT’S ON … Heather Keizur and Steve Christofferson play the Lighthouse Bistro on March 31 at 7:30 p.m. $20, $15 for students, from the venue, Fascinating Rhythm, Arbutus Music and online.
