Island Soul Choir invites audience members to celebrate Mother’s Day during a special afternoon concert at the Port Theatre.

The choir presents With Love at the Port Theatre Sunday (May 14) at 2:30 p.m. Island Soul Choir’s concert is a tribute to mothers everywhere. Songs were selected by Karla Mundy, choir conductor. There is a mix of feel good spiritual, southern gospel, pop and African songs that have themes around love, celebration and gratitude.

The concert also features special guest Coco Love Alcorn. Alcorn is a singer-songwriter has released more than 10 albums during her 20 year career, including her latest album Wonderland.

“Everything I’ve ever done has led me to here. To Wonderland, a collection of songs that are an invitation to connect, an invitation to sing, and an invitation to myself to dig deeper than ever before,” said Alcorn on her website.

Mundy said in a press release the choir was “thrilled” to have Alcorn perform during the concert. In a previous concert choir members performed two of Alcorn’s songs Good News and The River.

“Throughout my career I have explored across many genres, collaborations and projects, taking a windy path to get to here. But I have loved every step of my journey and trusted my inner curiosity to take me where it wanted to go,” said Alcorn. “I always thought my end game was to invent a new genre or create a brand new sound, to somehow mash it all elegantly together.”

Fresh carnations will also be sold in the theatre lobby by donation and members of the NanGo Grannies will sell baked goods before the concert and during intermission. Proceeds from the baked goods will go to the Stephen Lewis Foundation to help grandmothers in 15 African countries who are raising their grandchildren orphaned by AIDS.

Tickets are $25 or $5 for eyeGo available by calling 250-754-8550 or by visiting www.porttheatre.com.
