Island variety comes to Nanoose

April 18 event will include stand-up comedy, magic, music and a 50/50 at the Nanoose Place Community Centre

Bobbie Garnons-Williams is branching out.

The local stand-up comedian, who hosted her first comedy night last month in Qualicum Beach, will present a variety show in Nanoose this weekend.

“The idea of the Variety Show grew out of a conversation with Nick the Entertainer, who was performing his one-man show of comedy, music and magic for the Parksville Lions fun night,” Williams said in an email to the NEWS. “This sparked an idea to do a show in Nanoose that would have two or more performers with completely different acts.”

The variety show will have three performances. The night will start off with some stand-up from Williams, who performs under her stage name Bobbie G. Following her will be Nick the Entertainer. Nick has performed comedy for over 15 years and has also toured the Island with his one-man show, said a press release from Williams.

Finally, the variety night will finish with Shayne King. Called “The King of Magic” in the press release, King’s show will feature classical and comedy magic, plus some audience participation.

Please note that the evening may contain course language and subject matter not suitable for all audiences.

Alongside the entertainment, the variety show will feature a 50/50 draw hosted by the Nanoose Bay Lions. There will be a cash bar hosted by the Parksville Lions Club. Williams said she is happy that the local Lions clubs get “to raise awareness and funds for their group.”

The Variety Show will take place at the Nanoose Place Community Centre on Saturday, April 18. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the show will start at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets, which are $15 each, are available in advance at Perks Coffee Bar in Nanoose, online at bobbiescomedynight.com or through 250-240-1233.

Williams said she would like to have variety shows twice a year with different acts from across the Island if this first one is a success.
