An ever-growing number of people in the community have taken the opportunity to embrace tango. This dance encompasses an elegant and powerful language that can express many opportunities — connection, romance, respect, curiosity, playfulness, as well as joy.
“The tango dancer experiences one of the most sensual of all partner dances because of the intuitive contact and also because of its intimate improvisation,” said Richard Council. “In order to dance well, we develop a physical sense of our own body and that of our partner. We learn to trust our senses of touch and hearing intuitively, without intellectual analysis, and this brings us into the world of sensual experience on which our creative self depends. Although it takes two to tango, we are ultimately endeavoring to become one mind, and one body moving gracefully through space.”
Council is an Argentine Tango dancer. He is also an exceptional instructor with more than a decade of experience and has been featured in shows, stage performances and even starred in the film production The Heart of Tango. He announced his exclusive Tango training event scheduled in Nelson, which takes place May 16 to 18.
The event will consist of six advancing lessons. A potluck dinner and Practica will conclude the first day of lessons. On the second day, at the close of the two scheduled lessons, there will be a Milonga — a social dance where the tango students will demonstrate their acquired skills in a relaxed and social environment.
Finally, on the third day there are three scheduled classes. This event is recommended for beginner and intermediate dancers.
