My favourite television show to this day is the ‘70s hit series M*A*S*H. It’s a show that had the perfect balance of comedy and drama and even though its final season originally aired when I was just two years old, I still managed to become a die-hard fan.
There’s a certain comfortable feeling about watching the crazy antics of the 4077th M*A*S*H. It’s nostalgia that keeps me faithfully watching the reruns to this day. It’s that same nostalgia that I’m sure will keep me tuned in for many years to come.
The next couple of weeks at the Performing Arts Centre are packed full of nostalgia as some of Canada’s brightest stars visit, followed by a more home-grown show that pays tribute to some of the top acts of the century.
April Wine is considered to be one of Canada’s most significant rock bands. In March 2009 they were inducted into the Canadian Music Industry Hall of Fame and have received a Lifetime Achievement Award for their 40-year career which has seen the release of 18 albums and a long list of compilations. On Thursday, fans will get a chance to see this band live in concert. Known as Canada’s Country Gentleman since 1956, Tommy Hunter has embarked on what is known as his last tour. This Friday, join this legendary Canadian icon as he celebrates his incredible career at age 75. He’ll sing those classic feel-good favourites including You Are My Sunshine, I’ll Fly Away, Amazing Grace, King of the Road, and Travelin’ Man. The show starts at 7 p.m. on April 8 at the Performing Arts Centre and tickets are still available for purchase through the Ticket Seller Box Office at 549-SHOW.
The Louisiana Hayride rolls into the Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre this Saturday. Music of the Louisiana Hayride in Story and Song features dozens of songs that were aired on the hit radio show during the ‘40s and ‘50s and wonderful nostalgic stories throughout. This hugely popular concert series originated in Salmon Arm and has been rolling up and down the Valley ever since, often playing to sold-out houses. Saturday’s concert starts at 7:30 p.m. and you can call the Ticket Seller at 549-SHOW (7469) for your tickets.
And this evening, Violinist David Greenberg joins the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra on stage at the Performing Arts Centre for Dances With David. Greenberg is renowned for his baroque interpretations, Cape Breton fiddling and his ability to showcase both of these very different styles. Starting at 7 p.m., tonight’s program features Mozitich’s Postcards from the Sky and Vivaldi’s Concerto for 4 Violins. Tickets are still available and can be purchased online at www.ticketseller.ca or at the door.
